Strep throat is known as a bacterial infection that causes pain in your throat and inflammation. The cause of this condition is due to the group A Streptococcus bacteria. This infection can affect both children and adults. The severity of this disease may vary from an individual to an individual. Some are experiencing mild symptoms such as sore throat, while there are also others who experience sever symptoms like fever and the difficulty for breathing.

Here are the common symptoms of strep throat:

  • Sore Throat

Sore throat is the common symptom of this infection which often starts immediately and may cause pain whenever you are swallowing.

  • Swollen and red tonsils

When someone has a strep throat, he/she usually suffers from swollen and red tonsils. And sometimes, there are also streaks or white patches of pus in your throat.

  • White coating and red spots

Petachiae are considered as red spots onto the roof of your mouth on the back that is near in your throat. It usually appears on clusters and can look like just a rash. Apart from that, you might also notice yellow or white coating on your tonsils and throat.

  • Swollen Lymph Nodes

Swollen Lymph nodes on your neck are also a common symptom of strep throat. Aside from that you might also notice that you tonsil is swollen which sometimes a cause of viral infection.

  • Fever

Once you are suffering from strep throat, it is possible that you will be having a fever with 101  degrees Fahrenheit or above. But, lower fever is sometimes a sign of viral infection rather than strep throat.

  • Headache

Headaches, joint pain and body aches are can be experienced with having a strep throat.

  • Stomach Pain

There are people, especially the younger children with strep throat who suffers from nausea, vomiting and stomach pain. However, diarrhea is seems to be common for viral infection instead of strep throat.

  • Rashes

There are cases where strep throat can result to rashes that can spread all over your body. This kind of condition is called scarlet fever, where the group A Strep bacteria are forming toxin which can cause non- itching and red- colored rashes. These rashes are often visible in your groin region and under your arms.

Strep throat symptoms for toddlers and infants might also include thick nasal discharge, reduced appetite and fussiness. With or without any antibiotic treatment, it usually go away in the span of three up to seven days.

One of the major concerns of strep throat for people is its results which can cause serious complications. Once the bacteria spreads, infections on the tonsils, skin, blood, sinuses and middle ear may happen. If it is not treated, strep throats can lead to some inflammatory diseases such as rheumatic fever, scarlet fever and inflammation of kidneys which are considered as serious conditions which may affect the skin, nervous system, heart and joints. So, it is very wise to immediately consult from your doctor about your condition to easily treat it and be free from other serious conditions.
